Rendition Toward Books Nincstelenek: Már elment a Mesijás?
Unbearably brutal and vital at the same time. To give you perspective, this book made the characters in "A Little Life" seem like they were doing cartwheels at a trampoline park. This novel lays bare the most grinding poverty, ignorance, and cruelty imaginable, then ruthlessly drags the reader through. If you have thin skin, your skin will be torn by this book. If your skin is thick, but translucent, like mine, you will be sullied and stained and carry your taint around with you for some time afterwards. The thing is, this book depicts how most of the world gets by. I really do believe we should be reminded of that at certain intervals.
We are lucky.

A prominent review site called the recent English translation absurd and in the vein of Kafka. It's not. Like the blurb says, it's realistic, presented in a very matter-of-fact style. Called the whole thing off.A prominent review site called the recent English translation absurd and in the vein of Kafka. It's not. *3.25 stars.I had a hard time with this book. Clearly the author knows how to write, but the subject matter is so often incredibly difficult to stomach. I understand he's painting a portrait of extreme poverty and the nastiness of life, but I don't know how many more cases of animal cruelty, bawdy humor, racism, and abuse I can handle. I did appreciate the quotation listed below and I suppose it can be read as a summary of what this book is about."Because there is never an end to anything. Just
A series of vignettes describing life in this village. It doesn't adhere to a strict chronology but does give an overall impression. Grim.
