Commentary In Favor Of Books The Ice Dragon

The ice dragon was a creature of legend and fear, for no man had ever tamed one. When it flew overhead, it left in its wake desolate cold and frozen land. But Adara was not afraid. For Adara was a winter child, born during the worst freeze that anyone, even the Old Ones, could remember.
Adara could not remember the first time she had seen the ice dragon. It seemed that it had always been in her life, glimpsed from afar as she played in the frigid snow long after the other children had fled the cold. In her fourth year she touched it, and in her fifth year she rode upon its broad, chilled back for the first time. Then, in her seventh year, on a calm summer day, fiery dragons from the North swooped down upon the peaceful farm that was Adara's home. And only a winter child--and the ice dragon who loved her--could save her world from utter destruction.
"The Ice Dragon" marks the highly anticipated children's book debut of George R.R. Martin, the award-winning author of the "New York Times" best-selling series A Song of Ice and Fire and is set in the same world. Illustrated with lush, exquisitely detailed pencil drawings by acclaimed artist Yvonne Gilbert, "The Ice Dragon" is an unforgettable tale of courage, love, and sacrifice by one of the most honored fantasists of all time.

Write-Up Appertaining To Books The Ice Dragon

This a little gem of a book! It's about a child Adara who was born in the coldest winter in memory. Her mother died in childbirth, and Adara is a winter's child. This basically means she has cold skin, can hang around outside in the cold without getting hypothermia and can touch ice lizards without burning them to death. It also means she has a special connection with an ice dragon. I read it last night when I was feeling pretty rotten but wanted something to entertain me. I've read a few

The Ice Dragon, by George R.R Martin, is a short, engaging, novel. The amazing illustrations make the book all the better. The characters were well written. They were not perfect but very believable. The main character, Adara, is a small child with a big heart. She loves her family but her ice dragon more. Adara is a winter child so she cant feel the cold. Adaras father is a beast of a man. He is like a grizzly bear and has the muscles of Thor. Though he does have a soft spot for his family.

Another delightful short story by Martin. I read this originally in Dreamsongs, but then my sister gifted me this illustrated edition for Christmas. This is a story targeted at younger readesr (10-12 year olds) but enjoyable for all. Martin captures the cold ingeniously - only Jack London does it equally as well. In this rural community, the ice dragon is a feared beast, untamed and lethal. It leaves a frozen desert in its wake, yet the young girl, Adara - a child born of winter - is not fearful

This is a beautiful, children's fantasy book. It's a little dark at points and it will probably make you cry, but it's a quick read and the illustrations are incredible.

Because it's Game of Thrones Season...It's Winter Season..And Because it was the season finale..And, Summer Child, It has an Ice Dragon

This was brilliant, and hauntingly beautiful.. the kind that makes the hair on your arms stand up in the middle of the night. The cold did not bother her, for she was a child of Winter
