Narration Supposing Books March Upcountry (Empire of Man #1)

"THE ROYAL BRAT IS IN TROUBLE

Roger Ramius Sergei Chiang MacClintock didn't understand.

He was young, handsome, athletic, an excellent dresser, and third in line for the Throne of Man ... so why wouldn't anyone at Court trust him

Why wouldn't even his own mother, the Empress, explain why they didn't trust him Or why the very mention of his father's name was forbidden at Court Or why his mother had decided to pack him off to a backwater planet aboard what was little more than a tramp freighter to represent her at a local political event better suited to a third assistant undersecretary of state

It probably wasn't too surprising that someone in his position should react by becoming spoiled, self-centered, and petulant. After all, what else did he have to do with his life

But that was before a saboteur tried to blow up his transport. Then warships of the Empire of Man's worst rivals shot the crippled vessel out of space. Then Roger found himself shipwrecked on the planet Marduk, whose jungles were full of damnbeasts, killerpillars, carnivorous plants, torrential rain, and barbarian hordes with really bad dispositions. Now all Roger has to do is hike halfway around the entire planet, then capture a spaceport from the Bad Guys, somehow commandeer a starship, and then go home to Mother for explanations.

Fortunately, Roger has an ace in the hole: Bravo Company of Bronze Battalion of The Empress' Own Regiment. If anyone can get him off Marduk alive, it's the Bronze Barbarians.

Assuming that Prince Roger manages to grow up before he gets all of them killed.

Commentary About Books March Upcountry (Empire of Man #1)
I had trouble getting into this book, and even considered abandoning it early on because it wasnt holding my interest. However, I did become more interested in it as things progressed. The story is that a group of space marines are escorting a prince to an event on another planet. The prince is the younger son of the empress. Hes spoiled and rather arrogant, and hes been kept largely ignorant of the greater political machinations that have always been going on around him. Most people cant stand

Loved it. Read the series years ago and was thrilled to listen to it on audio. Moving on to March to the Sea.2019: Still one of my all-time favorite sci-fi series. Great story, great narration.

This series is the story of the second prince and youngest of three children of the Empress of Man. All of whom are entirely unrelated to the Emperor of Man from Warhammer 40k. Roger is the black sheep of the family, mistrusted by his mother and her advisors due to who his father is, he's kept at arm's length at all times. His reaction? Petulance, childishness and temper tantrums. Not the best way to prove anyone wrong. Send out on a diplomatic mission, his ship is sabotaged and brought down on

Even more fun than an Honor Harrington, if that's possible. More marine-in-the-ranks point of view, less perfect protagonist, same old techno-babble. (You'd think Weber would get tired of re-cycling his technology through all his stories. it's easier, of course, but it dulls their edge.)

It is fun to get back into a military sci-fi feel. Now to immediately derail that and wait for the sequels to be available.

Updated: Just had to correct a typo. Pretty good book. I found it amazing how many slow spots there managed to be in an adventurous military science fiction novel. Drew me in held my interest pretty well.We get to follow the prince and his guard troop through subsequent volumes in this series. i found it didn't "weather" all that well, but as space opera (if you can call a book where the space ship is down and the characters are stranded on a planet a space opera) it's pretty good. Enjoy. The

What starts off as a military space fiction in the vein of David Webers Honor Harrington series quickly become a high tech meets low tech style of military fiction. I wasnt sure what to expect after the first chapter but I really enjoyed the journey this book took me on. It is an excellent start to a series.Let me start off by saying I felt more of Webers influence in this story that John Ringos, although I have been unable to find how much each writer contributed. The overall story arc,
