Psychologist Faith Corcoran is desperate to escape the stalker who’s made her life a nightmare for the past year—desperate enough to run to the one place that has been her nightmare far longer. Both boon and bane, her recent inheritance of her grandmother’s old house in Cincinnati offers sanctuary in which she can start her life anew, but requires that she face the dark memories that still resonate to this day.

But she has no idea how close to home her fears still are.

Two college girls have gone missing in the area, and FBI Special Agent Deacon Novak is called to work on the case. When his inquiry unexpectedly leads him to Faith, he finds a beautiful and brave woman he can’t help but fall for. Soon they’ll discover that this seemingly simple investigation is anything but. Reaching back decades into Faith’s own past, it will shatter everything she believes to be true and will give terrifying new meaning to flesh and blood.

Critique Based On Books Closer Than You Think (Romantic Suspense #16)
The end of this audiobook was indeed closer than I thought because I'm pulling the plug with 19 hours left in this 28.5 hour(!) gasfest. This has to be the slowest moving, most painfully detailed, boring "thriller" ever written. I don't give a sh*t what happens to Faith, Deacon, the crazy stalker, or any of the characters because it is clearly going to bore me to tears before I find out. I think that even if there is an abridged version, that version will need an abridgment. Very few books

Just when I think I've got the baddie nailed, something pops up and puts them off the list. Kinda like Wack-A-Mole, except with the baddie, they just keep popping back up as suspects. At times I thought she threw it all in a blender just to see what came out. Characters, motives and victims all mixed up and coming out completely different than you thought it would. This one drove me crazy. Everything is up for grabs, except who the intended victim is and who the hero is. Because Karen Rose

After fighting him tooth and nail, shed finally begun to scream. She had the most remarkable threshold for pain. Hed be able to play with her for a long, long time. Karen Rose brings us Closer Than You Think, a creepy, disturbing thriller that will have readers painstakingly piecing together the many layers of this well-crafted plot.I picked this up because I liked the sound of the blurb - a crazy stalker, a big old house with bad memories, girls going missing - and who doesn't love a good

4.5, Roza with a "zed" stars.Lost my original review. So this is a rehash of it.Loved Deacon Novak. Anne OK's review brought this book to my attention and I really liked it. Closer Than You Think is the first in the new series from Karen Rose featuring Faith Corcoran as a central character. This was also my first Karen Rose book read ever (I know, how shameful being a crime addict!) so I was expecting to get blown away. Well I wasn't. I really liked this book but it was not the five star read I had been expecting from this highly praised author.Let me explain once we get past the blurb...Deacon Novak has returned home. The experienced FBI Agent knows that his move

'Closer Than You Think' is the start of a brand new series. Karen Rose does mention and use past characters. However it is much less confusing than the more recent books. I did not feel I had to work out who was who, which was a relief. The book was about Faith Corcoran, a woman who has had to change her identity to escape a stalker. She used to work with dangerous offenders and had to leave her job after her life was threatened. She has little faith in the police, after being bad mouthed by her
