31 January 2013Owly, Vol. 3: Flying Lessons takes us on another adventure with Owly and his best buddy Wormy. Can I just say how lucky little Wormy is? He is spoiled rotten! This was a tender story about friendship and the courage to overcome fears. I loved the flying squirrel and hope he comes back in future volumes.This series just makes me happy. It leaves me with such a warm, positive feeling...much like the feeling I get when I tackle my dogs with hugs. In its simplicity, it is able toOne day Owly and his worm friend are in the forest planting a flower. It turns night and they hear a rustle. They see that it is a flying squirrel and Owly wants to befriend it. But The flying squirrel is afraid and leaves quickly. Owly decides to try to warm up to the little guy.I think this is a really cute graphic novel series. I'm not a kid and I really enjoy this series. I know it's wordless, but even with pictures it tells a great and heartwarming story.
This book was really charming. It would be really good for early readers, because it only has a few words.
A wordless graphic novel easy enough for younger kids but enjoyable to all. This series provides a wonderful opportunity to practice empathy with our triumphant main character.
I did not care for this book at all, but I think that may be because I'm not familiar with the graphic novel genre. The plot line seemed like something young children would love, an owl that is taught to fly by a flying squirrel, but beyond that I did not get much from the book. I can see how this strongly visual format would be enjoyable for visual learners or those learning English as a second language. There is hardly any text, and it would be easy for them to understand the story.As a whole
My first thought was to say the Owly tales illustrate the power of optimism, but thats true only so much as Owlys attitude motivates his actions. Really, this is a series of stories about unrelenting giving, compassion, and friendship. Wordless graphic novel.Owly learns to fly from an unusual source. He tries to be friends with a flying squirrel but the squirrel is afraid of him. Wormy teaches them both about taking risks and being friends. Great to use for acceptance and perseverance.
